As we know, there are five types of tactics in Manager Mode: Attacking, Control, Counter, Defensive, and Custom. Which one is the best?
The preset tactics such as Attacking, Control, Counter, and Defensive have their strengths and weaknesses. However, based on our experience, these tactics have many drawbacks that make them less effective.
Considering the game’s situation, your opponent, and the strengths and weaknesses of your team, we believe the most appropriate tactic is the Custom one. With this tactic, you can freely edit your strategies during the game to adapt to the conditions.
Here are the best Manager Mode tactics that you can use to reach the FC Champion division:
Manager Mode Best Tactic (I)
Settings: Custom
Build Up | Offence | Defence | |
---|---|---|---|
Speed | 2 | ||
Passing Distance | 1 | ||
Mentality | Attacking | ||
Positioning | Free | ||
Passing Tendency | 2 | ||
Cross Tendency | 1 | ||
Shooting Tendency | 1 | ||
Positioning | Free | ||
Pressure | 2 | ||
Width | 1 | ||
Aggression | 1 | ||
Back Line | Cover |
This Custom tactic is suitable for opponents whose Team OVR ratings and players’ quality are similar to your team.
If you’re leading by two goals or more, you can reduce the Build-Up: Speed to 1, change the Build-Up: Mentality to Balanced or Defensive, and you can also switch Build-Up: Positioning to Organised. This will slow down the game tempo and help maintain your lead.
However, if you’re behind, you can increase the Build-Up: Speed to 3, Offence: Passing Tendency to 3, Defence: Pressure to 3, and Defence: Aggression to 2 or 3. This is to quickly turn the tide or at least level the score.
This tactic can be used for all formations, but from our experience, it’s most effective with 41212 Narrow, 41212 Wide, 433 Attack, and 433 Holding formations.
Manager Mode Best Tactic (II)
Settings: Custom
Build Up | Offence | Defence | |
---|---|---|---|
Speed | 2 | ||
Passing Distance | 1 | ||
Mentality | Attacking | ||
Positioning | Free | ||
Passing Tendency | 3 | ||
Cross Tendency | 1 | ||
Shooting Tendency | 2 | ||
Positioning | Free | ||
Pressure | 3 | ||
Width | 2 | ||
Aggression | 3 | ||
Back Line | Cover |
This Custom tactic is suitable for opponents whose Team OVR ratings and players’ quality are much lower than your team.
Like the previous tactic, if you’re leading by two goals or more, you can reduce the Build-Up: Speed to 1, change the Build-Up: Mentality to Balanced or Defending, and switch Build-Up: Positioning to Organised.
If you’re behind, you can increase the Build-Up: Speed to 3 and the Build-Up: Passing Distance to 2 to catch up as quickly as possible.
Don’t forget to make the most of your three-player substitutions, as this tactic tends to tire the players out.
This tactic can be used for all formations, but from our experience, it works best with the 424 and 433 Attack formations.

How to Climb Divisions and Reach FC Champion Effectively
Many people don’t realize that in Manager Mode, something even more important than tactics is how to climb divisions and reach FC Champion effectively.
While matchmaking in VSA and H2H is based on fans, in Manager Mode, it’s based on rating. Ratings are gained the same way you gain fans: winning increases your rating, and losing decreases it.
The key difference in Manager Mode compared to VSA or H2H is how promotion and relegation systems work. Knowing this difference is crucial as it greatly affects the difficulty of the opponents you face in Manager Mode.
If you don’t understand this mechanism and just play randomly, you can get stuck in lower divisions and unable to promote because you keep facing stronger teams than yours.
On the other hand, if you understand this mechanism well and use it to your advantage, you can easily and effectively reach FC Champion without facing teams stronger than yours.
Believe it or not, it only took me three days to be promoted from Legendary III to FC Champion, playing just 10 matches per day. After that, I just maintained my position in FC Champion to avoid dropping below rank 8,000 (the lowest rank before relegation).
I only needed to play for 7 days (10 matches per day, a total of 70 matches) to earn the FC Champion rewards at the end of the season.
How did I do it?
You can read our Manager Mode Guide first to learn about how the promotion and relegation system works. For this guide, we will only focus on the Legendary and FC Champion divisions.
You will earn points based on your match results:
- Win: 3 Points
- Draw: 1 Point
- Loss: 0 Points
For every division, there is a points threshold over 10 matches to either promote to the next division, relegate to a lower division, or stay in the current division.
In Legendary III:
- If you get 18 or more points in 10 games, you will be promoted to Legendary II.
- If you get between 12 and 17 points in 10 games, you will stay in Legendary III.
- If you get fewer than 12 points, you will be relegated to World Class I.
In Legendary II:
- If you get 18 or more points in 10 games, you will be promoted to Legendary I.
- If you get between 14 and 17 points in 10 games, you will stay in Legendary II.
- If you get fewer than 14 points, you will be relegated to Legendary III.
In Legendary I:
- If you get 20 or more points in 10 games, you will be promoted to FC Champion.
- If you get between 15 and 19 points in 10 games, you will stay in Legendary I.
- If you get fewer than 15 points, you will be relegated to Legendary II.
The key here is to be promoted as quickly as possible to FC Champion and stay there until the season ends.
Again, how do you do it?
We know that every time you win, your rating goes up and vice versa. To promote quickly, make sure that every 10 matches, you always get promoted. This is crucial so that the opponents you face remain relatively easy to beat.
Why? Because if you can’t promote within 10 matches, your rating is likely to still go up (as long as you win more than you lose). In the next matches, you might end up facing stronger opponents. So, you stay in Legendary III, but your opponents might be in Legendary II, Legendary I, or even FC Champion (because your rating increased).
This can’t happen in VSA or H2H, but it can happen in Manager Mode.
If this cycle continues, you’ll get stuck in a lower division facing higher division opponents.
That’s why you need to promote every 10 matches.
So, is there a trick to promote every 10 matches? Yes, there is.
Here’s the trick:
Play Manager Mode a week before the season ends. So, for the first three weeks, don’t play it at all.
This is to allow the stronger opponents to move up to FC Champion first. That way, you’ll face easier opponents.
In Legendary II and I, you’ll face opponents with high ratings but who are relatively weak. These are players who are stuck in the Legendary divisions (and even World Class divisions) for reasons such as:
- Their team is not strong enough
- Wrong strategy by playing the mode too early
- Often failing to promote
You can easily beat them and promote to FC Champion. After that, maintain your position to avoid dropping below rank 8,000.
If you still can’t reach FC Champion using this trick, the problem is likely not your strategy or tactics but the quality of your players. Upgrade your players, and if their quality is strong enough, you’ll be able to execute the above tactics and tricks successfully.
some guy says
will there be an update to this?
admin says
The tactics still work, so we don’t think we need to update them.
some guy says
Is there a way to fix my defenders being traffic cones or them purposely stopping running when the ball is with the opponent? I have max rank and level Cannavaro + Saliba, but they’re playing like base bronze players no matter what defending tactics I change.
admin says
I don’t think there’s a way to fix it, especially in Manager Mode. Try upgrading your team’s OVR; it might help them perform better collectively.

Sir, Actually the instructions that have been given on Manager Mood ( its Tactics and players formation) of FIFA mobile 23 is not correct and absolute. This section of the game always depends on the highest OVR of players. Mainly midfielder/second attackers. I have tried/applied everything as you but didn’t work. I don’t know why are you simply instructed as above. Whatever it is, your game is the best game in this category. Want to see more improvement in this game. Thanks.

Fifa mobile 23 manager mode is a game in which no one can win the game. No matter how high the OVR of the player/team has, except the wishes of the FIFA official. Game can only be won at the wishes of the official group. Because there are some rewards. Easily giving away the prizes will make the players richer and leave them to play. Which they never do. Isn’t it official?
